Hi people! I’m so happy that you’ve come to visit.
So, about me.
My name is Deena Levenstein and I was born in Toronto, Ontario on March 30, 1979. At the age of 11, my parents picked the five of us kids up and we moved to Jerusalem. In 1999 another beloved sister joined the clan to make us six.
I graduated from an art high school where I majored in classical piano (I just started playing again). Then I did one year of Israeli national service (that’s the alternative option from army service for girls with Orthodox backgrounds) and then I studied Judaism in a Yeshiva. After that I got my bachelor’s of science in nutrition from Hebrew University.
After a short nutrition stint, I knew quite definitely that it wasn’t for me.
In 2006 I decided to spend some time back in Canada. But since I felt the need to “go somewhere totally new,” I flew all the way out to Vancouver, B.C. By the end of my time there, besides having a most amazing job working with Jewish elderly people, I finally started trying to fulfill my dream of being a writer. I was blogging (even more than before), writing for the local Jewish paper and proofreading for them.
In September 2009 I returned to Jerusalem.
Now I am a פריקית של בלוגים. One of my clients called me that and it’s true! I am indeed a blog freak. I do other writing as well but blogging is my “thang.” (You know… that thing that’s really yours.)
My most active blog right now is habitza.com which I work on with Vera Resnick. It is about the Jewish dating and singles scenes. I also have… (ready?)
My blog I Love Smart Stuff.
My blog for people scared of blogging who keep thinking “I really should have a blog.” (I need to write on this one more).
I’ve started volunteering for a big organization in Jerusalem, building and writing their blog. I’ll update this once it’s launched to give the URL.
I also have a new blogging client. A hi-tech company in Jerusalem.

Hi Deena.
I just read your piece in the Jewish Independent…A report on the first Parents’Inc. seminar.
Well, good reporting. I didn’t like what the guest speaker’s point of view was – mine is quite opposite to what you reported! I still have heart beat acceleration!
Good luck with the writing. Happy Channukah
